Voices of Passion is a virtual instrument designed to use vocal samples of alto and soprano female singers from Wales, Syria, India, Bulgaria, and America to add an extra element to you mix. It includes ethereal, passionate, flowing, mysterious, wailing, and whispering vocals for film, TV, and game composers as well as songwriters, new age artists, and zen horticulturists. Note these voices aren’t meant to replace a live singer in your studio, but rather enhance the musical atmosphere you’ve created.

Voices of Passion features 5 stunning female artists singing vowels, words, morphing vowels, effects, phrases, calls, whispers, and breath noises. This virtual instrument/sample library was created specifically for use in the film/TV/game genre as well as music with ambient or new age music. All the singers were recorded with a Telefunken Elam 251 and a RCA 44 ribbon mic for tonal variation.

The collection features true legato intervals (American and Wales only), and the Middle Eastern and Indian phrases are presented in a construction kit format allowing you to create very long, consistent performances. There’s even a mod-wheel to control the entry point on ethnic phrases.

PLAY Powered by EastWest’s PLAY 64-bit (and 32-bit) Advanced Sample Engine with built-in Network Control (plug-in or standalone), this virtual instrument combines intuitive handling with excellent sound quality, and functions as a plug-in instrument, without the need for a sampler. It includes impulses from the same hall the producers used to record Symphonic Orchestra and Symphonic Choirs so the pianos can blend smoothly with those collections.

All instruments are listed in one browser
The easy-to-use browser displays all of your instruments with a Favorites section to group the instruments you use most, and a way to preview your instrument of choice in an easy-to-use column viewer. Load instruments into one instance to take advantage of your sequencer’s instrument tracks, or several if you so desire. The interface automatically changes to display current instrument.

Articulations
Forget browsing through complicated patch names: pick the instrument and play, and turn on/off articulations as you wish. The Articulations list also serves as reference for all expressions within the instrument (no need to look up key-switches in charts). You can save your favorite configuration for quick retrieval.

Legato Detection
PLAY senses legato and repetitive playing and responds accordingly.

Stereo Handling
PLAY allows the user to manipulate stereo samples in very useful ways. Stereo Swap allows the user to instantly swap the left and right channels. Mono from left, Mono from right, or Mono Sum allow for instant conversion from stereo to mono.

Mic Mixer
Control all mic positions for the orchestra, choirs, pianos, and other instruments with multiple mic positions with the built-in mic mixer. You can now do it right in the patch. Load, unload, adjust, pan, mute mic positions as you wish. Simply pick your instrument, and PLAY.

Effects Engine
This great sounding, powerful effects engine was built from the ground up for the highest possible quality. The Reverb section includes multiple impulse responses from halls, and the famous EASTWEST studios and live chambers (more RIAA certified Platinum and Gold records awarded than any other studio). Brass ensemble
The Brass Ensemble bank provides unison performances of the various orchestra brass sections, including French horns, trombones and trumpets. These presets provide the sound of the entire section playing the same notes in unison. Both staccato and sustained variations are provided. For each instrument (French Horns, Trombones and Trumpets), two different sections of four players each were recorded in order to provide a more broad variety of sounds. For the French Horns, an additional section of eight players was recorded for that big Hollywood orchestra French Horn sound.

Brass solo
The Brass Solo bank provides individual brass instruments playing on their own by world class virtuoso instrumentalists.

Classical Guitar
Two very different classical guitars are provided. Classical Guitar 1 is a custom made instrument played with finger and nail. It can be used for a variety of classical guitar styles. With its more organic sound, it is well-suited for the Spanish/gypsy style. Classical Guitar 2 is more appropriate for contemporary classical styles. Both presets provide a variety of playing techniques, in addition to the normal plucked single string.

Harp
Two different harp instruments, each with a distinctly unique sound, are provided. Harp 1 is soft and emotional, a truly unique sound. Harp 2 has a more bright, conventional sound suitable for a wide variety of musical styles. In addition, a variety of playing styles are provided, including single plucked notes, glissandos, cascades and chords.

Historical instruments
One of the most unique soundbanks included with the MOTU Symphonic Instrument, the historical instruments can add an extra level of authenticity to your classical compositions and recordings. Of particular interest are the extensive harpsichord presets, one of the most extensive harpsichord sample collections ever created. A wide variety of harpsichords were carefully multi-sampled, and many presets even include the authentic, mechanical sound made by these virtual instruments when releasing each note.

Mallet
The Mallet presets provide notes played individually for a variety of mallet instruments, as well as a number of glissando effects. Shieldmayer and Mustel instruments were recorded under the very best conditions to achieve an extremely clean and detailed sound.

Percussion
The percussion bank provides a comprehensive and memory-efficient collection of orchestra percussion instruments, including several different types of gongs and timpanies. The Basic Percussions menu preset provides a wide variety of orchestra percussion sounds, each assigned to a different key across the keyboard.

Pianos
Two beautiful concert grand pianos are provided: A Yamaha C7 and a Steinway D. These piano recordings represent state-of-the-art piano sampling, both in terms of the quality of the sound and the efficient use of memory.

Pipe organs
The pipe organs are organized into two major categories: Baroque (chamber) organs and Romantic (cathedral) organs. A wide variety of baroque organ sounds are provided, each with a variety of stop configurations. These instruments were recorded in European churches and preserve the sound of the acoustics of the church in addition to the sound of the instrument itself. The romantic organs are larger cathedral organs recorded across Europe. These instruments provide organ sounds on a more grand scale and sound especially authentic with the cathedral reverb settings.

Saxophones
Due to its relative youth as a musical instrument, compared to its classical instrument bretheren, the Saxophone was not used in the classical music repertoire. However, contemporary classical music adopted the saxophone as its popularity grew in the 20th century. Therefore, it has been included in the MOTU Symphonic Instrument library to provide complete instrumentation, even for contemporary classical repertoire.

Strings Ensemble
The String Ensemble bank provides unison performances of the various orchestra string sections, including violins, violas, celli and basses. These presets provide the sound of the entire section playing the same notes in unison. A variety of playing styles and techniques are provided. In addition, these recordings were made with each section placed in its proper position on stage. Therefore, when combined, they are spread across the stereo field in a manner that is true to their actual position on stage.

Strings Solo
The Strings Solo bank provides individual string instruments in a variety of playing techniques. In addition, they were recorded in mono to provide the most authentic sound.

Tutti Orchestra
Tutti is a conventional musical term used to describe the sound of multiple instruments all playing the same notes in unison. The Orchestra bank provides tutti ensemble performances for brass, strings and the entire orchestra playing together. These presets sound big and, when employed judiciously in a musical score, can be used effectively for emphasis. Several string quartet presets provide a nice intermediate sound between the solo strings and the full strings (and full orchestra). The Orchestra Run and Orchestra Tremolo presets are exceptional.

Voices
Recorded in Moscow and in Europe, the Voices soundbank contains an exclusive and extensive library of human choirs. Male, female and children’s choirs are supplied with a variety of vowel sounds, including ah (as in the word all), eh (as in the word every), ih (as in the word if) and oh (as in the word old). Both male and female soloist voices are included.

Woodwinds Ensemble
The Woodwinds Ensemble bank provides unison performances of the various orchestra woodwind sections, including clarinets, flutes and oboes. These presets provide the sound of the entire section playing the same notes in unison. Both sustained and staccato playing styles are provided. The clarinet and oboe sections consist of three players each, while the flute presets consist of two different sections of four players each.

Woodwinds Solo
The Woodwinds Solo bank provides individual woodwind instruments in a variety of playing techniques. Again, the solo instruments here were recorded in mono to provide the most authentic sound.

The bright, classic overtones of the harpsichord were recorded in Vienna’s own Silent Stage, where they captured single note and repetition performances on a two manual harpsichord, including 8′ register solo, 8′ double, and tutti (a combination of two 8′ registers and one 4′ register).

For more disharmonic overtones, check out their collection of harmonium sounds. For the uninitiated, The harmonium is a free-reed instrument, meaning that air streams past reeds of different lengths causing them to vibrate and creating an undulating like sound.

The prepared piano is perhaps the most intriguing of the three instruments. Basically a “no-rules” piano playing technique introduced in 1949 by John Cage, prepared piano can include a variety of objects like erasers, nails, paper, etc., randomly inserted between strings to fabricate unusual tones, harmonics, and percussive effects. Amongst the different approaches, the Vienna team treated a B”sendorfer grand piano with bare hands (e.g., glissandos over the strings) and with wood mallets in order to get a multitude of creative sounds and colors.

The Vienna Symphonic Library Woodwinds 1 includes flute 1, French oboe, clarinet, bassoon, flute ensemble (3 players), oboe ensemble (3 players), clarinet ensemble (3 players), and bassoon ensemble (3 players). The oboe is the French Oboe from the Horizon Series Library of the same name, and therefore also offers playing techniques with vibrato. Woodwinds I contains numerous new articulations when compared with the existing Pro Edition and Horizon Series Libraries. Solo instruments as well as ensembles now offer fast Interval Performances in legato and marcato styles, marcato Interval Performances in “normal” tempo, as well as Performance Trills. From the solo instruments, the flute and clarinet arpeggios (major, minor, and diminished broken chords in legato and staccato styles), the solo flute’s mordents, and the French oboe’s flutter tonguing particularly stand out. And the slow legato repetitions of the solo flute are especially appealing.
